British holidaymakers heading to the Algarve this summer will now find their arrival in Portugal quicker and more convenient, thanks to the rollout of e-gates for UK passport holders at Faro Airport.

The move follows a recent UK-EU agreement allowing British travellers to use automated passport control gates at selected European airports. Faro is among the first to implement the change, just in time for the peak summer travel season.

A Win for Algarve-Bound Travellers

Faro Airport is the main gateway to Portugal’s southern coast and one of the most popular destinations for UK tourists. The new e-gate access means shorter queues and a smoother arrival experience for millions of Brits expected to travel to the region over the coming months.

A spokesperson for the UK Prime Minister commented:
“Portugal opened e-gates at Faro Airport to British citizens, which will mean millions more Brits going to the Algarve will be able to use e-gates in time for the summer holidays.”

More European Airports to Follow

The UK Government confirmed it is working with other EU countries and airports to expand e-gate access for British citizens in the near future.

Cabinet Office Minister Nick Thomas-Symonds told Parliament:
“I’m delighted to confirm this morning that Faro Airport in Portugal will start the rollout of e-gate access to UK arrivals this week.”

This move is being seen as a positive step for post-Brexit travel relations, offering British travellers a more seamless experience when visiting popular European destinations.

For now, those flying to Faro can enjoy one less holiday hassle, and more time soaking up the sun on arrival.
