When it comes to exploring the wonders of the world, whether it be backpacking or simply a family getaway, we’ve rounded up some of the best travel apps (in our opinion) to help you along the way!

TravelSafe Pro

Potentially a life-saving database of emergency numbers and information. This app caters for just about every country you’d ever dream to visit! With access to embassy details should passports go missing and – for the truly paranoid – the option to pin certain services to your home screen, for one-touch access to police, ambulances and fire engines, you may never find yourself in a rut again… well hopefully…

Onavo

When it comes to accidentally downloading large emails, or posting your holiday pics to Facebook while abroad, we all know the pain of opening that dreaded phone bill at the end of the month to find your data roaming charges could potentially cause bankruptcy… Well fear no more, as Onavo drastically reduces the amount of data required to perform everyday tasks, such as retrieving emails and keeping up with social networking. How does it manage it? We aren’t entirely sure, but we’re not complaining!

Simply Declare

This easy-to-use bit of tech is the answer to every international voyager’s dilemma… Basically set your duty-free limits, then enter your purchases in whatever currency you bought them in, this nifty little app will then automatically convert it into the currency price of your home country, automatically updating your goodies  to the latest value.

Simply Declare lets you know when you are getting close to your duty free allowances and gives you a breakdown in your home currency value on the items list – so basically this little travel app can conquer monumental things… well we know we love it…

Hailo

I’m sure we’ve all had the struggle of waving down a taxi when abroad, never knowing where the best place is – and asking locals gets you nowhere when neither party understands eachother – then there’s the never ending struggle of trying to book a taxi over the phone, where unless they speak English you’re really done for… This clever little piece of software however, uses your phone’s GPS to make the cabs come to you – tap the big ‘pick me up’ button and one of the little cab icons on the map will start heading towards you.

Wi-Fi Finder

Returning to our previous point, that data roaming charges are still laughably expensive, this little gem of an app uses maps so all you have to do is  follow directions to your nearest source of wireless internet. Best of all, the offline mode means you can download maps before you go, thereby dodging a ridiculous bill.
